Industrial air pollution and waste legislation consulting

Air pollution is a major contributor to severe health issues worldwide. Emissions and with that their impact on human health are not bound to borders. Initiatives like the UNECE Convention on Long-range Transboundary Air Pollution (CLRTAP) are therefore necessary to reduce emissions on a global level.

Industrial emissions of NOx, SOx, VOC, NH3, PM and heavy metals are (still) a relevant part of the equation. On EU level there are directives on among others air quality, national emission ceilings (NEC), industrial emissions (IED/ IPPC with Best Available Techniques BAT), and volatile organic compounds (VOC). There are also regulations on F-gasses and ozone depleting substances. On top of this are many EU countries currently focussing on the emissions of Substance of very high concern (SVHCs).

As strategic experts we support member-states, local governments and companies with policy development, and the understanding of and adapting to new air pollution legislation (limits) and Best Available Techniques.

Our other area of expertis is waste legislation. Waste is becoming more of a problem since the shipment of waste is regulated more strictly. And from a resource point of view waste is to be avoided in the first place. While there are often plenty of options to avoid or reduce the production of waste, the focus is currently on recycling of waste materials.

Due to the growing lists of restricted and declarable substances, with sometimes only a few exemptions for recovered materials, recycling is not straight forward and can increase non-compliance risks for products with recovered materials.

We support companies in this complex regulatory landscape with questions like: What is waste, what is a by-product, when is something end-of-waste, how do product rules affect us, how can we reduce the production of waste?
